Hermes Rocket 1955 "Resto model"

My "resto model" finished.

A before picture, missing L-cover, dents,
broken draw-spring & bent linkages inside.

Third coat of black paint applied.

The upper & lower case adjustment screws,
for straight even line.
Both sides need to be adjusted just right, patience
is the key to success.

Time to start the paint process, frame comes
off pretty easy with just a couple of screws.
Tapped out a couple of dents and now sanding,
is left before 2 coats of grey primer applied.

I'll let it dry for 24 hours and wet-sanding using,
#400 grit makes the surface smooth and nice.

3 coats of gloss black applied, and then waited,
24 hours before wet-sanding again using #220
first making the orange peel disappear following
#400 grit and at this point I had found a parts,
machine for the missing L-cover + linkages.

Assembled everything and replaced missing &
broken parts inside for the first test typing.

Not so great but at least something works..

Learned the importance of adjusting carriage first,
then lower & upper case on both sides.

And repaired the bell at same time.

Vibrator linkage were bent so installed a used,
replacement from the 1954 parts machine.

The parts machine had R-missing... but
L-cover was good and many other parts inside.

Poor shape of this Hermes Rocket 1954.

Used the bottom mounting plate from 1954 parts
machine as it was better then mine.
Scraped old insulation pad off and glued new
black thick on instead & 4 new feet.

Finally finished, types smooth, straight lines and
just a pleasure using for all kind of typing projects.

Type sample with new blue ink-ribbon.
It's a keeper !
