Another favorite typewriter that were saved,
is this Hermes Rocket from 1959.
A very grimy and dirty machine found in the wild..
Draw-spring missing so the carriage did not function.
Stuck key-slugs, very dirty linkages and overall,
a parts machine but had determination bringing
it back to life again for combine the Hermes 3000 1959
with same year but Rocket model instead.
Needed a lot of scrubbing and fine tuning.
More dirt and grime...
Took all the upper cover off and soaked using
Dawn & hot water and carefully scrubbed everything.
Broken draw-string was next repair.
Someone been inside before as the complete spring,
were missing...
Searched for a suitable clock-spring but didn't,
have any luck finding the correct size.
Had to buy a parts machine instead.
Needed another return lever assembly also
so were able making that work from same machine.
Then assembly and first typing test:
The "naked" Rocket before assembly,
all cleaned and serviced:
All back together with fresh ink-ribbon.
Upper & lower case adjusted.
Time for the final typing test:
Straight even line, all key-slugs cleaned,
and very happy over the result.
It's a keeper !
And now these two typewriters made the same year
will live another 20 years (hopefully) being used again.
Hermes Rocket, 1959 & Hermes 3000, 1959.
